The saying „to plant a seed“ generally refers to an idea, which has yet not materialized, but might do so by growing over time.  But how do we measure when and how an idea is actually materializing? Planting a seed is an act of curiosity and uncertainty at the same time and requires us to step into the unknown.    

This workshop will look at precisely this moment of uncertainty and ask how does an idea become a concept? We will explore what resources and timeframes are required, and how speculative ideas can be reconciled with concrete production conditions.  

Using our own project ideas as a starting point, we will reflect on key parameters in concept development - and examining both content-related questions and structural planning. The workshop provides a space for discussion, feedback and initial concept sketches. 

*Shortbio: Epona Hamdan is a cultural worker based in Berlin. She works as a producer and researcher for scientific, digital, and media practices at Haus der Kulturen der Welt (HKW), alongside independent curatorial and research-driven projects across artistic and interdisciplinary contexts. Her work spans cosmotechnical inquiry, critical theory, and embodied knowledge, exploring intersections between artistic practice, science, speculative thinking, and emerging technologies. 

Epona studied History and Culture of the Middle East, English Philology, and Theatre Studies at Freie Universität Berlin, as well as Curation in the Performing Arts at Paris-Lodron Universität Salzburg. She has curated and co-developed numerous programs in Berlin and beyond. 

The workshop will be held in English. Contributions and questions in German are very welcome.
