On March 6, Senator for Culture Dr. Carsten Brosda, together with the umbrella organization for independent performing arts, officially announced the increase in funding for the independent performing arts community in Hamburg in the new premises of monsun.theater at Billrothstraße 79. The increase in existing funding instruments and the introduction of new funding opportunities are intended to strengthen Hamburg's diverse independent performing arts community in the long term:
Increase in funding
Funds for project funding will increase by €180,000 per year, while multi-year concept funding will be increased by €120,000 per year. These increases are intended in particular to support compliance with the lower fee limit and cover the high number of applications in the areas of spoken theater, music theater and performance, while diffusion funding (revival and guest performance funding) will be increased by € 200,000 to a total of € 300,000 in 2025. This will further increase the visibility of the independent scene and strengthen sustainable production.
New funding instruments
In addition to the increase in existing funding, there are new funding instruments that will further strengthen the structures of the independent performing arts community:
Continuity funding: three established artists will each receive €100,000 per season over three years.
Co-financing fund: With €200,000 per year, artists can apply for federal funding, for which co-financing by the city is required.
Rehearsal room fund: €200,000 is made available annually to strengthen and expand rehearsal room structures.
